Electrogals Festival Day 4: Skirts in the Studio: A History of Women Pioneers of Electronic Music


It's day 4 and we're not slowing down! In addition to 6 hours of installations (12-6), tonight at 7 pm, Bonnie Miksch will lecture about the history of women in electronic music.  This lecture will trace the history of women contributors to the field of electronic music within the larger frame of twentieth-century technological developments and explorations in Europe and the United States.  (photo of Daphne Oram)

Electrogals Festival Day 3: How to be a be a Rock Star in 90 Minutes or Less!

It's day three and there's still plenty to do! Installations (including the listening room) open at noon and run until 6. And then, at 7pm, we've got a workshop called "How to be a Rock Star in 90 Minutes or Less: Writing Music on the iPad" taught by Electrogals co-producer Christi Denton. The Portland Mac Store has generously lent Electrogals 20 iPads for this hands on workshop, and participants will have some time to write and perform their own pieces in front of the rest of the workshop!

Electrogals Festival Day 2: Installations, Composer-In-Residence, Natasha Kmeto, Ableton, and the Listening Room!

Today is day 2 of our festival and we're going strong! The entire festival takes place at Disjecta, and tickets are here.

The gallery will open at noon so that folks can check out the very very cool installations. We have pieces by Perri Lynch and Stephanie Loveless, and a listening room where you can listen to sound-art pieces submitted to us by amazing composers from all over the world. The listening stations are housed in vintage hair dryers (and look so cool!) In addition, (electrogals founder) Heather Perkins will be Composer-In-Residence from 3-6pm, and working on her song "Ernest Borgnine" as part of her 365.52.12 Project. The gallery will continue to be open the rest of the week (minus Heather): Installations can be viewed Tuesday - Thursday 12-6, and Friday and Saturday 12-5 (and it's free).

Electrogals Festival Day 1: Stephanie Rearick, a Concert, and Timebanking!

Today is the opening day of our week-long festival, and we have some amazing stuff lined up for you throughout the week!  The entire festival takes place at Disjecta, and tickets are here.

Meet Filmmaker Kavita Bali: film on October 15th at Electrogals 2011: Gals Gone Wired!

Kavita Bali is a visual poet, contemporary fine artist and filmmaker whose first book of poetry, ‘Dancing, Creative Souls’ was just released. Kavita recently shared her paintings in her Solo Art Exhibition ‘Emotional Expressionism’ in May at Village Studios & Gallery in Greenville, SC where she is a resident artist.

Meet Installation Artist Perri Lynch for Electrogals 2011: Gals Gone Wired


Perri Lynch is a Seattle-based artist. Her work examines the relationship between human perception and sense of place. Issues of navigation, intuition, and physical proximity are key components of these investigations. Through combined techniques in sound, light, sculpture, and image, Perri explores many attributes of a place simultaneously.

Heather Perkins is the founder of Electrogals, and is also Sound Designer, Composer and Mad Scientist at WaterDog Studio and Land-O-Newts! Records, where she makes music and sound for love, and for a living. With a healthy balance of digital fortitude and a home-spun DIY aesthetic, she believes in music as a part of everyday life. Meet Natasha Kmeto - giving a lecture on Abelton Live and performing Mon., October 11 at Electrogals 2011: Gals Gone Wired!

Kmeto was born and raised in California, playing and touring with bands of all genres since the age of 15. She completed the Keyboard Performance program at Musician’s Institute in Hollywood and soon thereafter relocated to Portland in 2007. The move helped rekindle Natasha’s creativity and passion for music which got lost in the bustle and industry of LA.
